Effective urban educators are reflective practitioners who can accurately assess themselves and develop plans for improvement. |
Lesson PlanningIn order to be an effective urban educator, I must value my students needs and learning abilities. As an urban educator, I am committed to creating lesson plans with my students in mind. Universal Design for Learning, accommodations, and differentiating instruction are all ways in which I plan for and accommodate to the needs of all of my students.

CollaborationCollaboration plays a huge role in growth as an educator. Team members are able to offer perspective that I may not have and are able to provide valuable ideas, feedback, and insight. I have had the opportunity to collaborate with people in many different areas, which has offered me a great deal of insight and growth. I have been able to co-teach in my own classroom, I have worked with colleagues to create innovative lessons, and I have worked with mentors who have offered me knowledge on how I can grow and improve.

ReflectingAs an educator, the most important key to growth is reflection. The world as we know it constantly changing and we must be able to accommodate to those changes. Keeping daily notes, identifying our strengths and weaknesses, and reminding ourselves of the important role we play in families lives are key to successful reflection. I personally keep notes on a regular basis, ask for feedback regularly, and continue to learn in order to be a reflective educator and continue my growth. In addition, I have been able to record myself throughout my teaching experiences to be able to reflect on my growth as a professional.
